Prayer Reminder

Everyday with God

‘We know that God is working out all things for our good according to his will, but seldom can we discern what that good actually is. In other words, most of the time, we don’t know exactly what outcome we should pray for. Prayer is the way to experience a powerful confidence that God is handling our lives well, that our bad things will turn out for good, our good things cannot be taken from us, and the best things are yet to come.’
Tim Keller
Reflect for just a few minutes on the question: Has my life turned out how I had imagined it to be?
For most of us, after a quick review, some of us might say yes - my life is pretty much what I had thought it would be. For others, the answer might be an emphatic NO, my life is nothing of what I anticipated. As we recount life events that were unexpected, heart-breaking, or even tragic, or when we recall circumstances and experiences that were surprisingly wonderful and amazing blessings, we remember again that we are not in control.
Prayer is when we can humbly ask God for what seems right to us, what we think would be good, satisfying and logical. But we know from experience that most of the time our hopes may not become reality the way we would have imagined, nor in the time frame we expected. This is grace to us, but we can only know this when we look backwards.
But we must keep praying. In spite of our lack of discernment for ourselves or for others, prayer is the muscle that helps us build confidence that ‘God has this’. He has us. All our lives for good and all of our lives for his glory.
Just for today-
+ Reflect on your life and thank God for the things that you prayed for that God in his wisdom did not allow.
+ What situation in your life do you need to pray for God’s will to be done? Express your desires and thank him that he will always do what is best.
