The Joy of Fearing God

Everyday with God

The Joy of Fearing God
'To enjoy God is to enjoy the fear of God. And to fear God, is by definition, to aim for his glory. If we are to be God-fearing people, then the fulfilling, life-stretching truth is that we must make it our aim to glorify him in all that we are and in all that we do. We cannot truly fear God without seeking his glory.

John Murray described the fear of God as consisting of four things: awe, reverence, honor, and worship. And with that perspective in mind, we say that by definition the fear of God focuses on God's glory. The person who fears God seeks to live all of life to the glory of God.

The fear of God, the glorifying of God, and the enjoyment of God are so closely intertwined that we cannot separate them. That's why we can say there is joy in the fear of God and be both theologically and experientially correct.'*
