Enjoying His Guidance
'Christians often talk about finding or knowing the will of God related to a particular decision they must make. But the thrust of Scripture, however, is not on finding God's will, but upon his guiding us. Not that God's guidance is always easy to discern and follow, sometimes it seems as if he leaves us on our own to determine the best choice of course or action. But in the end, often in ways that surprises us, God guides us in his path for our lives. As I look back over a half a century of being a Christian, I can't think of a single instance where God failed to guide me in some important decision I needed to make.

Though it often seems as if God is not fulfilling his promises of provision or protection or guidance, we know that God cannot lie or be untrue to his Word. As he said to Jeremiah, "I am watching over my Word to perform it." Jeremiah 11:2

As those who seek to fear him, we may plead these promises before God, but we have to leave it to him to fulfill them in the way and in the time he sees best for us. I emphasize the word plead because I prefer that expression to "claiming the promises of God". The word claim suggests an obligation on God's part, which of course is not there. Plead on the other hand acknowledges our helplessness and dependence on God, and, at the same time, recognizes that we have no claim upon him.'*
