Students Ministry

Welcome NorthPoint Students

NorthPoint Students is all about belonging. It’s a place where every student can look to Jesus, find real community, and learn how to engage the world around them. Students experience this through weekly gatherings, small groups, retreats, events, and serving opportunities that make faith real and friendships strong.

Meet the Student Pastor

Tom Ward

Tom joined the NorthPoint team as Student Pastor in 2024. He and his wife, Ashlyn, live in Johnston with their three kids— two girls and a boy. Tom is from the Chicago suburbs and came to NorthPoint after working in student ministry at a local church in Chicagoland for 10 years. He loves seeing students encounter Jesus, find a community where they belong, and build a faith that lasts their entire lives. Outside of ministry, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, watching sports (especially the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears), playing pickleball, and drinking cold brew coffee.

Meet the Middle School Lead

Johnny Etherington

Johnny serves as the Middle School Lead, where he focuses his passion on seeing middle school students learn to walk with Jesus in their everyday lives. Johnny served six years as a youth pastor for middle and high schoolers in Omaha, Nebraska, before he and his wife Jordan moved to Johnston in 2024. Outside of discipling students, he loves to spend time with his wife and two children, Brinley and Oaks. He also enjoys fishing, the outdoors, and anything related to athletics.
